Why Was My Tax Refund So Small?

Max’s Answer

You’re not alone. Many taxpayers expect a refund similar to prior years and are surprised when it arrives much smaller than expected. Changes in income, tax withholding, deductions, credits, filing status, or even a second job can all affect your refund. Remember, a tax refund is not a bonus from the government. It’s simply the return of taxes you paid in excess of what you actually owed.

Max’s Tip

Review your paycheck withholding at least once each year, especially after a job change, marriage, divorce, or other major life event.
